How to fix a Windows 10 laptop that plugs in adapter but not charge
After updating to Windows 10, the laptop's
battery stops charging. Laptop will show that it is plugged in, but it says it
is not charging.
Fortunately, I found this problem not
uncommon and often appeared after the Windows update. Even more gratifying is
that there is a simple solution. Here's how I can charge my laptop's battery
after charging it.
If your laptop is not charging the battery, even
if it confirms that the battery is plugged in, this is what you need to do:
1. Open “Device
Manager” by searching for Device Manager or by right-clicking the Start button
and selecting “Device Manager”.
2. Click
on the battery on the list to expand it and you should see two items:
Microsoft
AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI Compatible Control Method Battery.
3.
Right-click each item and select “Uninstall Device”. Yes, you are uninstalling
the laptop's battery drivers, but don't worry, because they are automatically
reinstalled when you restart your laptop.
4. Turn
off your laptop.
5.
Unplug the power cord from the laptop.
6. If
your notebook has a removable battery, remove it. My Lenovo laptop does not have
a removable battery. I tried to skip this step, but it didn't work, so I took
off the bottom panel of the laptop and then removed the battery by
disconnecting it from the motherboard.
7. If
you remove the battery, put the battery back in place.
8. Plug
in your laptop.
9. Turn
on your notebook.
10.
Click the battery icon in the system tray and you will see that the notebook is
plugged in and charging.
By
reinstalling the Lenovo
laptop's battery driver and disconnecting its battery and then reconnecting it, the
laptop's battery will recharge when it is plugged in.
