What should you do if your MacBook is spilled with liquid?
According
to Sewelltech's research, 60% of all incidents from laptops were from liquid
spills, 40% of which came from coffee. It's like a demon putting my cup of
coffee in the air and pouring it on my MacBook. The screen turned black right
away. After I tried to wipe as hard as I could, I started to frantically search
Google for what would happen if your laptop had spilled liquid?
Sprinkling
coffee on a laptop is a computer killer, creamer, sugar, etc. - but coffee is
even worse. More importantly, even if you sprinkle something less corrosive on
your laptop, such as water, there is a report that the average cost of
repairing liquid damage is $600. The cost of repairing my MacBook Air is $800,
which is only slightly lower than the cost of buying a new notebook. But if
your pollution is small and you move quickly, you can be fortunate enough to
protect your laptop parts.
"It's
important to note that if your laptop gets wet, it's critical to hurry. You must
turn it off, unplug the power, and
then remove the battery immediately. Every second is important," John
Martindale said. Suggestions on Digital Trends. Although this is a good
suggestion, many newer Apple computers do not have a battery that is easy to
disassemble. Once you remove and disconnect all possible things, grab the most
absorbent towel you have, wipe your computer, open it as wide as possible, and
turn it upside down.
If you
have placed your phone in a swimming pool or toilet, you may have placed it in
the ICU of your phone, just like a bag of rice. You can also try this on your
laptop. “Put it on a dry surface – a good choice is a large bag of rice,
because rice has enough water absorption to help extract any liquid that enters
through the gap in the keyboard,” Martindale suggested. “Use a large bag, a lot
of rice, then put them in a warm, dry room. Feel free to turn on the fan to
speed up the process until you can take the laptop to the repair shop.”
Not
everyone recommends rice, so whether you want to try rice, it depends on you,
even if drying is more effective than rice to solve laptop keyboard liquid damage.
Ideally,
if you don't have time, at least four hours. Even though it looks dry, these
parts do absorb a lot of water, so just give it time to dissipate any liquid.
If your computer is still under warranty and the warranty covers an overflow,
call them as soon as possible to inquire about the need for repairs.
Unfortunately, most warranty coverage does not cover the repair of man-made
liquid damage.
AppleCare
does not include liquid leaks. However, in 2017, AppleCare+ was introduced,
which included two reports of accidental damage, including the damage covered
by the leak. If you have tried all the devices yourself and the computer still
does not start, take it to a trusted repair shop as soon as possible to see if
it can be saved.
A
computer maintainer may need to keep your laptop for a few days because there
are other damaged computers waiting to
be viewed.
