Dell - Two Detachable Screen Laptop

Laptops with detachable screens are not new. They can be seen in Microsoft's Surface Book, but Dell hopes to go further. The company filed a patent for a laptop with two detachable screens, suggesting a future in which consumers can work more efficiently.

The "Information Processing System with Multiple Detachable Displays" originally filed on June 30, 2017, is detailed for attaching multiple displays to portable notebooks in a variety of configurations. Looking ahead to a demo scenario, Dell's multi-screen laptops seem to rely on magnetic accessories for functionality. With a cylindrical metal strip on the bottom, the detachable screen can be magnetically attached to the base of the keyboard, giving it a double-sided finish that can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The portable information processing system can include a first display, a second display, and a pedestal having an integrated keyboard. The base may also include an integrated component for connecting and supporting the first and second displays. For example, the connection can be facilitated by a channel on the pedestal that is configured to magnetically connect and support the display.

Dell also mentioned a scenario where both screens can be connected and turned to consumer-facing, allowing for the expansion of available multitasking space. Combining the bottom controllers into a mirrored or extended display eliminates the need to connect to a second monitor, which is not always convenient.

For even greater portability, Dell believes the screen can be removed and stored in the base of the laptop for easy portability. But this is not the first time Dell has considered using a dual-screen laptop. In April, it patented a device with two connected screens, one for the main display and the other for the virtual keyboard.

Not only Dell's notebook screen, I believe that in the future we can see more dual-screen computers, able to handle multi-tasking at the same time, to meet the multi-tasking needs of more use environments.
