How to Log in to Windows Without a Keyboard
Unless
you have configured your account to not use a password or use the biometric
login method, you will need to type your password on the login screen to log in
to your Windows account. But what if your keyboard is broken or not responding?
Don't
panic! You can use an external keyboard to enter
the relevant characters. If you don't have a spare keyboard at hand, you can
still log in to your Windows account. You only need one available mouse,
trackpad or touch
screen.
All
Windows systems include a feature called an on-screen keyboard. As its name
suggests, this is just a virtual keyboard on the screen. You can use the mouse
or touch screen to select each key, the real physical keyboard.
You can
use the on-screen keyboard to log in to Windows without a keyboard. To access
the on-screen keyboard from the Windows login screen, look for the Easy Access
icon. It looks like a dotted circle.
Click
the icon to see the Easy Access menu, which contains several options to help
disabled users.
You can
reposition or resize the onscreen keyboard in the same way as you would a
standard application window. To log in without a keyboard, simply select your
account from the list using the mouse or touch screen, make sure the cursor is
active in the Account Password box, and then use the mouse or touch screen to
enter the Passkey Keyboard one character at a time.
When you
are done, click or tap the Enter key on the onscreen keyboard or click the
arrow to the right of the password box.
This
will log in to your Windows account and you can continue browsing the operating
system with your mouse or touch screen until a keyboard is available.
