4 Tips to Fix Laptop Keyboard Not Working

If you type some characters on the keyboard but don't see the text on the laptop screen, it may be that your keyboard has stopped working.

Why is your laptop keyboard stopped working?

Often, there are five reasons why a laptop keyboard stops working. Each cause has its own solution.

Keyboard driver error: Can be reinstalled or updated.

Dirt and dust: Cleaning up the laptop keyboard can help.

Poor connection: In some cases, you can turn on your notebook and reconnect the keyboard. The keyboard may be malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

Wrong locale: Some characters are invalid and some keys are faulty.

1. Update or roll back the laptop keyboard driver

The easiest way to handle an unusable laptop keyboard is to update the driver.

Click Start and go to the device manager to do this. The Device Manager icon will appear in the results, so click this button. Browse the list of devices until you see the keyboard, then expand the list. Right click on the keyboard device (usually the standard PS / 2 keyboard) and select Properties > Drivers. Here, click "Update Driver" and wait for Windows to find the new driver and install it.

Choose to uninstall the device and wait for the driver to be removed. When you are done, you should restart Windows and wait for the driver to be reinstalled. However, you can also use Windows > Scan Hardware Changes to prompt Windows to install drivers.

After restarting the computer, use the word processor or Windows Notepad application to test whether the keyboard is back to normal.

2. The notebook keyboard does not work? Clean it!

Cleaning a standard keyboard is not easy; cleaning a laptop keyboard is even harder. The keyboard requires a certain amount of physical interaction to loosen the dirt, although it is usually easy to implement using a USB or wireless keyboard, but the situation on the laptop is different.

Basically, you can't easily shake and tap the back of your laptop without damaging the entire device.

However, you can remove dust and debris from the notebook keyboard by turning the device off, then turning it upside down and tapping the cradle lightly. Then, invert the device to remove any residual dirt.

3. Replace the broken laptop keyboard

If the keyboard is physically damaged or has been disconnected from the motherboard (perhaps due to a shock), then you will need to take some time to remove the component from the laptop and reconnect or completely replace the keyboard.

When the keyboard is removed from the laptop, the keyboard can be better cleaned, and the keyboard connection cable is checked again for proper connection. A poor cable connection can also be the cause of the keyboard not responding.
