How to fix a Dell Inspiron stuck on black screen
The
Dell Inspiron laptop doesn't boot to the Windows operating system or stuck on a
black screen at startup. If you encounter this issue, this article will help
you solve the problem.
When you see a black screen during
startup on a Dell Inspiron laptop monitor, there are many factors, including
software and hardware damage.
1. Power reset
1)
Turn off the computer by pressing the power button for about 10 to 20 seconds
or the power indicator is off.
2)
Turn off the notebook and unplug or disconnect the AC adapter or power cord
from the power source. Or, if your Dell Inspiron laptop is one
of the models with a detachable battery, removing the battery can also provide
the same positive results.
3)
Disconnect all external devices or peripheral devices, such as printer cables,
media cards, or USB drives.
4)
If you have removed the battery,
please reinstall or reload it.
5)
Then press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
6)
Plug the power cord or AC adapter
back into the power source.
7)
Press the power button to turn it back on.
2. Boot to
safe mode
Safe mode allows your computer to load
Windows without activating all drivers and applications. This may be helpful if
you are dealing with system critical issues that interfere with normal Windows
operation on your computer.
Here's how to boot into Safe Mode on a
Dell Inspiron laptop using the Windows platform:
1) Press the power button to turn on
the notebook.
2) Hold down the Shift key repeatedly
and quickly click the F8 key during startup. Doing so will you to the Recovery
Mode menu before the Windows OS starts loading.
3) If you can't get it on your first try,
try again. It may take several attempts before it can work to be patient.
4) In the Recovery Mode menu, select
View Advanced Repair Options.
5) Select the
"Troubleshooting" option.
6) Then select the "Advanced
Options" button.
7) Click the Windows Launch Settings
button.
8) Click the "Restart"
button.
9) The Advanced Boot Options menu will
prompt you when the computer restarts. It enables you to start Windows in Safe
Mode, use Network Boot Safe Mode, and use a command prompt to launch Safe Mode.
10) Click to select the preferred
security mode option.
If your laptop still can't boot in
Windows in Safe Mode, it's probably a hardware issue.
3. Delete or
update the program on your computer
If your laptop can boot in Windows in
Safe Mode, try this method. Some of your applications may have crashed or
become corrupted, eventually leading to conflicts. To fix or remove any
suspicious programs, you can go to the Control Center. But this is only
possible if you can boot into safe mode.
1) To do so, click on the Start menu
-> Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> and 2) select
the program you want to delete or repair.
3) Select the "Repair"
option (if available). Otherwise click Change.
4. Update or
reset the BIOS
Another possible reason your laptop
may not boot in Windows is that it may have tried to boot to another device
before. To resolve this issue, you will need to reset the BIOS to factory
defaults.
Here's how it's done: restart the
laptop
1) When you see the Dell logo, click
the F12 key repeatedly until you see the Entering Setup tab in the top right
corner of the screen.
2) Click this option to reset the
default settings. You may need to press the keys listed at the bottom of the
screen to load the default settings.
3) If resetting the BIOS to factory
defaults will not resolve the issue, you can also update the BIOS to the latest
version.
4) Press ESC to exit the BIOS screen
and make sure to select the Save and Exit option. Doing so will save your
recent changes.
